The ‘Sierra Sounds’ are a collection of bizarre vocalizations many believe to be actual recordings of Sasquatch. Recorded over the course of several years in an unknown, remote deer-hunters camp between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park, the ‘Sierra Sounds’ collection is an essential pillar of not only Bigfoot sound evidence, but for ‘proof’ of these creatures as a whole.

This creepy clip from ‘In Search Of…’ (1978) is a good introduction to the ‘Sierra Sounds’:

Background of the ‘Sierra Sounds’

In 1971, Ron Morehead worked as a hospitality manager and church board administrator in Merced, CA. One fateful week, Ron learned that a family friend & fellow church board member was two days late returning from a high-Sierras hunting trip. The man’s wife explained to Ron that his hunting troupe encountered mysterious creatures that made “horrific, intimidating sounds and left five-toed prints around their camp.” One of the men even fled the site in terror.

A known explorer/adventurer and trusted friend, the man asked Ron to return with him to the area and collect evidence. Soon thereafter Ron trekked into the wilderness with a small group that included the hunter-friend and Sacramento journalist Alan Berry. The first trip yielded no results other than fragments of perceived toe prints in sand. The follow-up adventure was much more eventful.

On this trip, once they reached the remote deer-hunters camp, it didn’t take long for the mysterious beings to arrive from a nearby ridgetop.

Luckily, Ron & Alan brought ammo.

Well, tape recorders.

Though they evaded sight stealthily, the creatures whistled, screamed, and vocalized towards the men several times. After the invaders faded into the night, Berry and his companions found large bare-foot prints in the snow and pine.

For the next year or so, Ron, Alan, and friends returned to the site with microphones, tape cassette recorders, and plaster of Paris for foot-casts. It seems that, more often than not, the team encountered the supposed Bigfoot. Furthermore, they found the creatures to be incredibly stealthy. Camera traps were evaded easily and only brief glimpses were ever attained. Luckily, the phantoms overlooked the discreet microphones taped to bush branches and hanging from tree limbs. Over time, the team successfully collected high quality audio and footprint casts: a treasure trove of Bigfoot evidence.¹

About Alan Berry

I think it is important to note that, early on, Alan was very skeptical. Aside from being a former officer in the Vietnam War and holding a Master’s Degree in Science (if those accomplishments equal integrity for you) , Al was an investigative reporter for the Sacramento Bee. He cared very much about accuracy, and was described as a man of great character. He accompanied the men for a breakout story. Until his death in 2012, he always felt that “it would have made the story even more interesting if he could have discovered how anyone could have pulled this off.” His primary goal in the initial trips was to disprove the encounters. He was convinced of the hunter’s deception and even rummaged through their packs to find evidence of the fakery. He never found a shred of proof that he was being deceived.

Where is the Spot Exactly?

Ron and his group certainly found a super secret spot. According to a radio interview with BigfootEvidence.blogspot.com, the approximate area is inbetween Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park. Ron provides a nice rebuttle to skeptics on a hoax page of his website, providing some general geographical details:

The Sierra camp is over eight miles, walking, from the closest road, any road.

The trip is very exhausting. The men (about half way into the trip) would often leave the forest trail and proceed different ways to the camp, so as to not leave an obvious trail.

The camp is over 8,000′ in elevation. In the fall it would snow and freeze.

The men would always look for evidence of other people that may have been in the area. Rarely was any other humans within miles of the Sierra camp.

A shelter used by Ron Morehead and friends at the ‘Sierra Sounds’camp

How many recordings of the ‘Sierra Sounds’ were collected?

Several clips of the ‘Sierra Sounds’ can be found across the internet. I first heard this evidence on the In Search Of… clip where Al recreates an evidence collection session from 1972. There are staples, but I believe there’s still quite a bit of audio that’s not readily available, but can be purchased on Ron Morehead’s website. To date, Ron has released two collections (available on CD or digital download), and a book about his experiences (also available to download). Here are the descriptions for each:

Bigfoot Recordings Volume One: A True High Sierra Wilderness Story
Description: Produced in 1996 by Ron Morehead features very clear vocalizations captured in 1972, by Alan Berry, the investigative reporter brought into camp . Jonathan Frakes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, narrates. (40 minutes)

Bigfoot Recordings Volume Two: The Bigfoot Recordings
Description: Produced in 2003. Written, produced and narrated by Ron Morehead. It features rhythmic rapping-pounding sounds, and almost understandable phrases emanating from these creatures. (40 minutes)

Looks like about 80 minutes of high quality evidence. Hell yea.

Studies Supporting the ‘Sierra Sounds’

The ‘Sierra Sounds’ underwent a year-long evaluation at the University of Wyoming. The researchers determined the origin to be primate, and that one of the speakers possessed a vocal range and lung capacity much greater than the average human’s.

Additionally, they ruled out the presence of alteration. The tapes had not been sped up or slowed down or even re-recorded. They were organic pieces of evidence.

“The unusual growl-like sounds and whistles were studied by Dr. R. Lynn Kirlin, a professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Wyoming. It was his opinion that the format frequencies found were clearly lower than for human data and their distribution does not indicate they were the product of human vocalizations and tape speed alteration.”

Went Worth College Professor and former U.S. Navy crypto-linguist Scott Nelson determined that the ‘Sierra Sounds’ feature an actual deliberate language. With over 35 years in the field and fluency in four languages (English, Russian, Spanish, and Persian) his expertise led to the realization of more than grunts and snarls. He believes there are clear distinctions tagged on to the words in the form of phonemes. Phonemes are sound unites that “distinguish one word from another in a particular language.” Phonemes directly cause accents, since foreign-language speakers apply one type of phoneme inventory (French, for example) to a language with a different one (English). Nelson even created a transcription of the recordings by slowing the ‘Sierra Sounds’ down considerably. Per his report:

“Sasquatch Language is spoken approximately twice as fast as any known language in most analyzed recordings, therefore it must be slowed down to be transcribed accurately.”

Nelson’s ‘Sasquatch Phonetic Alphabet (SPA)’ paper is truly amazing. Even if these theories never lead to a definitive conclusion, one can’t deny Nelsons work proves there’s much more to the ‘Sierra Sounds’ than just primal grunts.

“Because of what I did in the Navy, spending years and several thousand hours speeding the human voice up and slowing it down, I could just detect language in those vocalizations.”

Opposition

Like any piece of Sasquatch evidence, the ‘Sierra Sounds’ are highly debated.

Good.

We need to keep adding good, conscious evidence in bulk to the pot, but we ultimately need to strain out the flimsy bits. The ‘Sierra Sounds’ are held in high regard, but what do some skeptics say?

A Hard Skeptic: Karen Stollznow, ScientificAmerican.com

“The vocalizations are an amateur impression of how a proto-language might sound if it evolved from non-human primates. This “Bigfoot” is likely human, and the ‘Sierra Sounds’ a combination of hoax and misidentification, like all of the other evidence for Bigfoot.”

“Similar to the claims of the (so far mythical) Orang-Pendek, Bigfoot would probably communicate using vocalizations. However, non-human primates don’t have the physiology to produce a wide variety of speech sounds, so it is unlikely that Bigfoot would have developed language, or would be able to speak existing human languages.”

A Recreation

Youtube user Hippies WithGuNs recorded his own version of the ‘Sierra Sounds’ and I must admit, he does a good job. He certainly nails the “pig monkey” sound, as he puts it, but admits he needs to work on the whistling. Check out the video and let me know what you think.

‘Night Scream’ by Scott Davis

Note, it’s difficult to determine the authenticity of a true ‘Bigfoot Scream’, since there are an infinite amount of other animals out in the wilderness screeching, cawing, wailing, howling, and braying together in a moonlit chorus. The potential for hoaxing is also very high. Even though we have very compelling Bigfoot sound evidence, we can’t forget that technology allows us to blend, enhance, deepen, and overlay intricate audio collages. Even back in the mid-20th century sound recording technology was advanced enough to allow for granular manipulation. That being said, let’s have an honest listen to the best pieces of ‘screaming’ evidence.

Bigfoot Screams on the Umatilla Indian Reservation

In 2012, several residents of the Umatilla Indian Reservation near Pendelton Oregon (Washington/Oregon border) reported loud, bizarre screams and shrieks coming from a spread of dense swampland over the course of several nights. At times, the sounds were so unsettling and intense that residents woke up suddenly and couldn’t get back to sleep. Even their dogs refused to go outside. The sounds ranged from bass-heavy roars to blood-curdling shrieks.

A tribal housing authority employee, Colleen Change, recorded this intriguing audio:

The Umatilla Reservation spans 178,000 acres. The utter strangeness of the sounds made it all the more unsettling. Most of the 1,500 people on the reservation practically grew up in the wilderness. They experienced the full spectrum of animal sounds throughout their lives, but these screams, according to many, are sounds that have simply never been heard before. Some even heard the sounds bellow from two different directions, as if a conversation took place.

A History of Odd Activity

Could these truly be Sasquatch screams? The confederated tribes of the Umatilla Reservation— the Umatilla, Cayuse, and Walla Walla- all tell stories of a form of Sasquatch, or wild man of the woods. The region is rich in supposed Bigfoot activity. In 1976 18″ tracks were discovered by a Walla Walla man just north of the reservation in the Blue Hills. Oregon, generally is a hotspot for Bigfoot activity. The state reported at least 243 encounters decade after decade. Fifteen of these reports took place in Umatilla County, including a 1992 ‘Class A’ encounter, where two brothers observed a “large hairy man” watching them 100 yards away across a gorge. And in 2002, a man reported another ‘Class A’ encounter, claiming that a Sasquatch-like creature stared at him through a window of his rural home. The creature fled into the treeline when it was acknowledged by the man. He investigated the land immediately after, discovering 16″ long, 6/7″ wide footprints.

Could the local fauna be to blame for the Umatilla screams? One local wildlife manager on the reservation explained that when cougars breed, the sounds they make are “absolutely hair-raising.” And the neighboring swampland is “a perfect place to have an echoing call sound eerie.” Additionally, wolves, coyote, and fox (listen to examples below) can produce wailing bellows and the same type of maniacal cackle the residents heard. The swamp may have enhanced the eerie nature of these already strange animal calls.¹

The Bigfoot Scream You Have Probably Heard

“The sound you hear is what some experts claim to be a Bigfoot scream. Recorded in the state of Washington by a group of campers in 1971. It is regarded as the highest quality audio of the creature ever captured.” -Leonard Nimoy, Ancient Mysteries (1992)

This is probably the most well known of all Bigfoot screams. I first heard this clip featured in Ancient Mysteries: Bigfoot (1994) back in the day. I assumed it was authentic, no doubt thanks to Leonard Nimoy’s wise timbre. Unfortunately, about a year ago I watched Sasquatch: The Legend of Bigfoot (1976) and was upset to hear that this very scream was used prominently in the film! The sense of awe and terrified wonderment I always had for the hauntingly beautiful audio was lost.

At that point when I watched the movie, I accepted that the audio was made for the project and year after year the origin became hazier and hazier into oblivion. The film is 40-odd years old and highly obscure. I assumed the producers of Ancient Mysteries and these other Sasquatch documentaries of recent years completely overlooked the source or chose to move forward with the segment believing no one would notice.

Unfortunately, It’s Probably Fake

As I continued research, I stumbled into ParaBreakdown’s corner of Youtube, and he provided evidence that this scream was utilized in an EARLIER Bigfoot movie, called Big Foot: Man or Beast (1972). In this pseudo-documentary, a couple from British Columbia were interviewed about an anguished ‘screaming cry’ heard in the swamps behind their home at dusk. The film then provides an “approximation” of the recorded sound, which of course turns out to be the Bigfoot scream in question. This form of it, though, is much clearer and even seems to have some echo and reverberation, somewhat indicating recording-studio acoustics. No!!!!

And if this is the original version… then the Ancient Mysteries: Bigfoot clip just completely made up the 1971 Washington Campers story. Why wouldn’t they have played this original audio then, you know?

I am holding out. I like this audio too much. It’s real damnit! It has to be!

So I’ve decided to subject myself to the suggestive powers of unsourced Wikipedia pages and down-the-rabbit-hole Youtube Comments. The Sasquatch: The Legend of Bigfoot Wikipedia page says the audio is authentic and recorded before the film. As I waded deeper into the shitty blackness of the Youtube comment feed I found a handful of users defending the source, claiming it was truly legitimate:

“There’s not a bit of actual proof that this is a construct. In fact, though he doesn’t take credit for it, it’s most likely a capture made by the same gentleman who’s responsible for the “Sierra sounds” recordings.” – Youtube user ‘Pattysreal’

You read that right. I’m sourcing Youtube comments and unverified Wikipedia text. I consciously elect to put my head in the sand. Roar on, lonely Sasquatch.

More Notable Sasquatch Screams

Even though the Ancient Mysteries wail is likely fabricated, there are plenty of compelling Sasquatch scream recorded throughout the years. Many possess that same kind of anguished, exasperated cry. Others, on the other hand, feel malevolent and sound just plain terrifying.

The Puyallup Screamer

In the spring of 1973 a young boy and girl were riding their bikes on an old pipeline road outside of Puyallup Washington. As they rode near a large gravel pit, a hulking, bipedal ‘thing’ walked across the road, approximately 150 yards in front of them. It paused halfway, looked at them, and continued its stride into the dense bush. The kids pedaled home frantically. No one believed their story even though something strange had been haunting the town of Pullyup for weeks: horrible screaming in the night.²

The children had experienced it, and many of the townsfolk felt the terror. The screams continued after the children’s encounter. And finally on May 12, 1973 a man named Marlin Ayers collected proof. One night he recorded this frightening audio of the chilling screamer:

http://www.oregonbigfoot.com/sounds/ORBF_puyallup_train.mp3

The Clipper Mills Screams

In the Summer of 2012, a couple traveling with their two dogs through the Sierras near Clipper Mills CA pulled off-road to fix transmission issues in their truck. The vehicle was beyond repair that night, and they decided it was best to wait until morning to seek help. At approximately 10:00 pm, a chorus of powerful, distant howls began. The unsettling cries lasted exactly twenty minutes before fading away. Per the video uploader, “This is as it happened, it changed us, we will never forget that night as long as we live. I am so glad I caught this to prove our sanity and to remind us that this actually happened.”

It is tempting to just vomit every halfway-believable Bigfoot video on Youtube into this list, but I will spare you dozens of two-second jerky camera-shots that are more infuriating than intriguing. With all the blurry blobs in the pixel’d distance, evaluating Bigfoot evidence often feels like trying to understand modern art. Sometimes there’s just nothing there.

So here you go. I separated these into four tiers. I also didn’t include thermal footage, due to lack of daylight. And I will mention that these fourteen made the rank, despite ALL featuring varying amounts of possible fabrication. Proceed with caution.

TIER IV: BIGFOOTING FROM A DISTANCE

14. Mission BC Clip

LOCATION: Mission, British Colombia
YEAR: 2012

A couple filmed this distant biped on a hike in British Columbia. The subject appears tall, covered in hair, and moves erratically. All very compelling details…

I would love to know the approximate distance and general location of this video. If hoaxed, I would find it to be an enormous waste of time and a pain-in-the-ass to separate from friends, hike all the way down to that hilltop, and act like a Bigfoot for 12 seconds.

As you will notice, just about every Bigfoot video exists in a world free of context. No one knows what happened before or after. Most of the time we don’t even know who actually filmed the video! This is a good example of simple visual intrigue. Maybe they really did stumble upon this creature out in the middle of nowhere. This is the kind of situation that I know every one of you have thought about on hikes through similar terrain: picking out a creature in the distance and coming out with a worthy piece of Bigfoot evidence.

13. The Alberta Family Clip

LOCATION: Alberta, Canada
YEAR: 2014

“That is definitely not a human. That is not a human AT ALL.”

Did Dad make her say that? Perhaps. But, I will say that the subject in this video appears VERY wide. This is one of the times where I desperately wish we could see the original-original video clip. A few more pixels would really help out here. We’re on the cusp of some fantastic physiological details.

What do you think?

12. Provo Canyon Clip

LOCATION: Provo Canyon, UT
YEAR: 2012

I’m not a Provo-canyon fanboy as much as some of the other Bigfooters out there, but I must include this video. The witness known only as “Beard Card” filmed this super-wide black creature on the side of a ravine while camping. He believed it to be a large black bear and watched it for some time before it stood up on the ravine hillside:

“We had actually been standing there for awhile. We had thought it was a bear up to that point but when it stood up and looked at us it was just massive animal. We don’t know what it was. I mean none of us really believe in Bigfoot but we’ve talked about it over and over again since then. It happened on Monday and all of us are positive that thing wasn’t a bear.” ¹

11. Russian Kids Film a Yeti

LOCATION: Russko-Ursky, Russia
YEAR: 2013

The video begins with a long line of very deep, very wide indentations in the snow, which appears roughly two feet deep. The kids follow it, because, no joke, this would be THE MOST AMAZING DISCOVERY OF ALL TIME if you were 10 years old. I can’t imagine how pumped they were for this. I also can’t imagine how freaked out they were when they found what made the tracks…

The distant subject in the trees is actually a bit creepy. It appears to stare at the children, leaning heavily to one side. After a few stare-down moments, it bursts into a wild run and the kids flee. The way it moved felt very natural and animalistic.

10. The Polish Yeti Video

LOCATION: Tatra Mountains, Southern Poland
YEAR: 2009

Filmed on the side of a mountain in Poland, this impressive video taken by mountain climber Piotr Kowalski appears to show at least two Sasquatch or Yeti. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a compelling Bigfoot video showing more than one mature creature. Piotr was understandably shook by the event:

“I saw this huge apelike form hiding behind the rocks. When I saw it, it was like being struck with a thunderbolt. Coming from Warsaw, I never really believed the local stories of a wild mountain ape-man roaming the slopes. But, now I do.” ²

I love this video. I believe that if real, there are different physiological attributes of these creatures based on their location throughout the world. These appear very lithe with raised shoulders and a nestled head. How their slimmer body type relates to mountain-dwelling, I do not know. I will say that this appearance perfectly fits decades worth of Yeti descriptions.

9. The Freeman Footage

LOCATION: Canada
YEAR: 1995

“Oh there he goes!”

What a classic line.

The Freeman Footage used to win the Silver Medal in Bigfoot video evidence, a great distance behind the Patterson/Gimlin Gold Medal footage. Several contemporary videos have edged it out, but it still features a ton of exciting details. Freeman gets a decent look at one (of the presumed two Bigfoot) walking straight across the frame.

I feel like there’s a noticeable smattering of shitty Freeman replica videos out there now. Many seem to show the very similar head-down, heavy, reaching step seen here. Who knows, though? Maybe that’s actually how they walk, but I like to think that Sasquatch move with more pronounced grace.

As Mike Damone from Fast Times at Ridgemont High would say, “You don’t just walk in… You mooooove across the room.”

8. The Prince Edward Island Quadrapedal Clip

LOCATION: Prince Edward Island, Canada
YEAR: 2001

The videographer, Nathan Wiley, was filming an unrelated short movie with friends. The shot they needed required the actor to run out of the woods as if being chased. Almost in a playful manner, the huge black humanoid darts across the shot opposite of the actor. Wiley, who grew up on Prince Edward Island, was shocked:

“All I know is, it looks huge, black and furry and seems to start out running on all fours and then proceed at the end to get up on it’s back legs and run. There aren’t any bears on the island either so we have no idea what is it.”³

If you ask me, the Prince Edward Island clip doesn’t actually appear to show a four-limbed run as the popular description often displays. Instead it look like the subject makes short leaps and digs it’s arms back-and-forth to propel forward while maintaining balance.

Very very compelling…

7. The Lettuce Lake Skunk Ape Footage

LOCATION: Lettuce Lake Park, Florida
YEAR: 2015

The Lettuce Lake footage is one of my favorites from the last few years. Matt McKamey and a friend canoed through a swampy region of Lettuce Lake, Florida coming upon a very lithe, tall, black shape in the distance. In the video the shadowy humanoid appears to drag its hands in the water, dismount the log, and bound through the muck out of site.

A few things stand out to me about this great slice of southern Bigfoot evidence.

– The subject looks extremely tall
– It moves with finesse through the water
– It features a unique nestled, cone-head (see Tatra Mountain clip)

Not to mention that I’m sure those swampy waters, as McKamey put it, are “infested” with cottonmouth snakes and gators. A hoaxer willing to battle the beasts of Florida on their own turf deserves a serious A+ for effort.

6. The “I Think I Saw a Skunk Ape, Please Help” Video

LOCATION: Tunica, Mississippi
YEAR: 2013

We love to see more than your typical ‘walk across the field’ shots. Anytime a unique trait shows up on video, we all kind of lose our minds. For this clip, the chorus sounds, “OH MY GOD! FORAGING!!!” It always reminds me of Dr. Grant observing flesh-and-blood dinosaurs for the first time in Jurassic Park, “They’re moving in herds…. They DO move in herds.”

So this is a great Bigfoot video though. I love it. I might even say it’s beautiful in a weird little way: Skunk Ape digging for grubs at the base of a cyprus tree in a Mississippi swamp at twilight. Ahh, I love the south.

One more thing. I’m glad I now have a forum to sound off on these annoying nuances I continuously see in Bigfoot videos. I hate the “now it’s about to get real” stand-up/run away sequence at the end of many of these. It feels so cliche, right? In this case, if real, I guess that would freak me out. Why would you think the thing even knew you were there? It’s not going to ‘dramatic chipmunk’ you and take chase. At least film a couple more seconds. And your terrified sprint definitely DIDN’T give you away.

So either legitimate Gorilla-like Skunk Ape or dude-in-black-hoodie-wearing-backpack, this Bigfoot video firmly sits in the top 5.

5. The ‘Big Red’ Footage

LOCATION: Ontario, Canada
YEAR: 2013

In this clip the video-man, known only as ‘TimberGiantBigfoot’, alludes to discovering a Bigfoot shelter site somewhere in Ontario. He returns later with camera to perform wood knocks, hoping to contact the potential Sasquatch. As he shuffles through the forest distant rock smacking rings out subtly. He zooms his camera through a tangle of trees eventually landing on a large, red-haired conical head.

There is a small club of very controversial “Bigfoot videographers” on Youtube. This TimberGiantBigfoot mingles in that little party. He appears to get a lot of heat in video comment sections, but what can you honestly expect in this weird corner of Youtube.

This video receives a lot of criticism, and I agree there are issues. I can’t say what any given person would say to themselves as they film a Bigfoot for ten minutes in the Canadian Wilderness, but I admit his dialogue feels insistent. He continuously chimes in with “you won’t believe it” details that presumably try to lull the watcher into believing that much harder, like “It sure stinks back here. Like urine.” and “The stone is even warm. This is what it was smashing with.” There is also a loose rendition of a now very popular Sasquatch ‘tree structure’ conveniently at the spot.

But hey, if legitimate, this is amazing, right? I’ve picked it apart enough. I do think this is a fine Bigfoot video with many intriguing details. Afterall, I like it to post it this high in the list. High resolution scores mega points, regardless of the character behind the camera. If TimberGiantBigfoot does encounter these creatures regularly, just keep on shootin’ buddy.

From the original uploader:

“Every year the fruit just seemed to disappear overnight off my apple pear trees. Also the birdseed used to vanish without a trace. I thought it was raccoon or something and so I set up a camera. This is what was caught on camera. You can make up your own mind as to what it is.”

Perhaps the creepiest entry to this list, the window-peeking video deserves a lot of attention. While still relatively new, this clip really excited the Bigfoot world when it was published sometime in 2015.

Haven’t we all kind of imagined this situation sitting in a bright room at night with the window wide open? That black square is always unnerving. Everything out there in the oblivion can see in, but you can’t see a damn thing out. But then you slightly make out what could be prowling through that darkness. Piece by piece, a massive, hairy figure, with beaming, intelligent eyes materializes into view. Just when you comprehend the scope of this shape, it is gone.

Poof.

Terrifying.

3. The Harley Hoffman Footage

LOCATION: British Columbia, Canada
YEAR: 2001

I am hesitant to put this at #3, just because of the guy behind the video. This might be the most mysterious clip of the lot. Who is Harley Hoffman? And who the hell is Hutch Hoffman, his ‘twin brother’? Hutch created a full blown documentary about his hunt for evidence of SANTA CLAUS. In fact, in one of his YouTube videos, Hutch notes that Harley is famous for filming this Bigfoot clip. Seems like an odd thing to say considering very few people have even seen this video…

Why does the clip cut off so fast? And what does the interview with ‘Harley’ have to do with it at the beginning?

But you know what? I’m throwing my hat out the window on this one. I really like the clip.

If this is hoaxed as some weird promo for his/their Santa Claus documentary (if you haven’t picked up yet, I am very skeptical of the fact that he actually has a brother), then I admit… you got me. You win. This video is fantastic and offers an amazing amount of detail as the ‘subject’ appears to walk up a hillside at VERY close range. The peanut gallery consensus (Youtube/Crypto Message board forums) is that the detail level rivals Patterson/Gimlin and the footage is authentic.

Is this legit Bigfoot evidence, or just a promotional video? What do you think?

2. Independence Day Footage

LOCATION: Unknown
YEAR: 2010

The ‘Independence Day’ footage is truly compelling. We have our first clear-ish look at, presumably, a baby Bigfoot. The clarity shown in this short 2 minutes is simply refreshing. It begins with a cone-headed, black creature emerging from behind a large boulder. The figure appears skiddish and even paranoid- constantly looking over it’s shoulder until it returns to frame holding what appears to be a child in its arms. It shuffles away into the boulder field.

Another clip-of-unknown-origin. All we know about this video is that it was apparently filmed on Independence Day (which is such bullshit because I see NO fireworks anywhere in the video) and for some reason this guy Leroy Blevins, who at one time was known to be working on a Patterson/Gimlin replica, might be involved. This is what I mean when I say I’d rather not get into the weeds on the people involved in these videos. The background and aftermath of the Patterson/Gimlin encounter is convoluted to death, and modern encounters are becoming even worse. Unfortunately this is the nature of a Bigfoot video on the internet. I could write here and now that JJ Abrams did the CGI on this clip and that would become total fact to hundreds of people by next week.

But anyways, this is a fantastic piece of Bigfoot evidence if authentic. We get our clearest face shot since Patterson/Gimlin and a little nino thrown in. The babe even appears to push away from the parent at the end. THIS is a good video!

TIER I: THE PATTERSON/GIMLIN FOOTAGE

1. Patterson/Gimlin Film

LOCATION: Bluff Creek CA
YEAR: 1967

“Is there no one else!?” – Brad Pitt from Troy

That line kept shooting through my head as I ranked these. Really, there is nothing else that comes close to the Patterson/Gimlin footage. Can you believe that we are STILL talking about it? Can you believe that NO ONE has proved it fake? FIFTY years later, folks. Nowadays, we have high-powered, crystal clear cameras in our pockets at all times. Obviously, handheld cameras only became more popular beyond 1967 and, still, year-after-year the Patterson/Gimlin film still sits firmly atop Mount Evidence.

In October of 1967 Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin, two former rodeo riders, entered the Six Rivers National Forest in California . The men traveled 25 miles southwest of Orleans, CA on horseback following Bluff Creek, a tributary of the Klamath River. They rounded a turn in the creek bed past a large upturned tree. Just past the tree’s significant root structure, the men discovered the 6’5″ – 7’5″ reddish, brownish, silver-streaked beast.

The horses reared. Patterson dismounted and retrieved his camera. Shakily approaching the creature, he filmed 59 seconds as it walked across the creek bed towards the tree line with a look of ‘contempt’ and ‘disgust’ on its face.

Several books are completely dedicated to the events surrounding this footage. Controversy envelopes it like none other. Beyond Patterson and Gimlin, there are many more colorful characters to consider in this tangled tale. I am surprised a feature full length film has not been created. With the eccentric lineup of competing Bigfooters, a Wes Anderson production feels appropriate.

And also, wouldn’t it be absolutely fantastic to see the Hollywood FX masters attempt to recreate ‘Patty?’ Who knows, we could actually strengthen the validity of the footage if the digital effects crew struggles to replicate the creature.

So there you have it! Most of this Bigfoot evidence is fairly recent, so that’s a great sign. The rising frequency of compelling footage really excites me. Don’t forget, though. It doesn’t matter how amazing your video turns out. If you really observe a Sasquatch, only physical, scientific evidence will get us somewhere. Go cast that track. Look for hair. These clips rock and keep our chin’s up through this fantastic yet elusive paranormal safari of life, but just remember it’s going to take much more. You will need to satisfy scientific scrutiny and prove to the world that you didn’t just film hairy uncle Rick looking for a place to piss in the woods.

Compelling Bigfoot sound evidence has been recorded for decades. Have a listen to some of the best pieces.

Bigfoot Calls, Moans, and Howls

Bigfoot calls are often compared to (what else?) a Howler monkey. Many have recorded what is said to be several Bigfoot communicating over miles and miles via long, guttural cries. While possibly confused with midnight wailing of coyote or fox (which sounds eerily like a shrieking woman), one can’t deny the intriguing ape-like resemblance of the sounds.

In 1994 Finding Bigfoot’s Matt Moneymaker recorded a loud, eerie moan somewhere along the Ohio River near Wellsville, OH. Known now as the ‘The Ohio Howl’, this recording prompted serious scientific evaluation and is used to this day for “Bigfoot call blasting”. This tactic requires large stereo speakers, a vast spread of uninhabited wilderness (no neighbors), the starry night sky, and a “Sounds of Bigfoot” playlist on your iPod. Relatively serious Bigfoot hunters use this technique, introduced by Moneymaker, to hopefully illicit a distant Bigfoot response.

Bigfoot Samurai Chatter and the Sierra Sounds

Chatter takes place in close quarters between these creatures. Perhaps the most acclaimed Bigfoot sounds, the “Sierra Sounds,” were recorded by investigative report Al Berry and hunter/outdoorsman Ron Morehead in the early 1970s.

In a remote Sierra Nevada’s deer hunting camp, Morehead & Berry hung microphones from tree limbs and fastened them in bush branches. Over the course of several years, the two men and a group of hunter friends recorded extended audio clips of several unknown beings speaking bizarre, somewhat sinister sounds. Much of this garbled dialogue is often called ‘Samurai Chatter’ by Bigfoot enthusiasts. Collectively, the ‘Sierra Sounds’ span 80 minutes… over one hour of fantastic Bigfoot evidence.

The recordings were even analyzed by a professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Wyoming. Dr. R. Lynn Kirlin determined the evidence was valid and organic. The vocal spectrum far exceeded the range of an average human. Wentworth Professor and former crypto-linguist Scott Nelson discovered a phonetic language within the amazing ‘Sierra Sounds.’ READ MORE ABOUT THE ‘SIERRA SOUNDS’ >>

Bigfoot Screams

“Terrifying.”

“Eerie.”

“Haunting.”

“Anguished.”

These are powerful words used to describe unusual screams of unknown origin. Supposed Bigfoot screams are typically considered un-classifiable: they don’t sound like a fox, they don’t sound like coyotes, and they don’t sound human. Many describe the screams as possessing a ‘demonic’ or ‘evil’ quality. While the sources may be coincidentally-timed combinations of common animals, the power, breadth, and persistence of the screams strongly suggest otherwise…. something truly terrifying with a huge set of lungs. READ MORE ABOUT BIGFOOT SCREAMS >>

The Puyallup Bigfoot Scream:

In the spring of 1973 a young boy and girl rode their bikes through a forested area outside Puyallup Washington. They passed an expansive gravel pit area and stopped suddenly. A hulking, black creature walked across the road 150 yards in front of the children. It looked at them, but continued into the dense forest across the way. Terrified, they road home. Unbeknownst to the frightened pair, they may have come face to face with the creature that had been haunting Puyallup with terrifying, moonlit shrieks for weeks. Their encounter may have been the culminating moment in the ‘Puyallup Screamer’ episode, but it didn’t get out of town without leaving some hard evidence. A short time later, on May 12, 1973, Puyallup resident Marlin Ayers recorded this wailing scream:

http://www.oregonbigfoot.com/sounds/ORBF_puyallup_train.mp3

Tim Hall’s Great Smoky Mountains Encounter:

When he was a student at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, a man named Tim Hall experienced what he believes to be a Bigfoot scream at the summit of Mount Leconte in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Tim and a five of his friends were hired by the park for general labor and restoration efforts. Caught in a winter storm whiteout one evening in a ranger’s cabin high upon the mountain, they were awoken by a “horrible, horrific” shrieking. The “something” pounded upon the cabin door, beating it hard enough to flex the wood inward. Tim felt “hopeless”, believing the creature would undoubtedly kill all of them if it knocked through the door.

They all survived the night. In the morning the shaken men discovered massive foot impressions outside the cabin.
